This week in Westminster…

The final week few days before Parliament began its summer recess were particularly busy.

The six-month furore over Liberal Democrat MP David Ward’s claim “the Jews” were “inflicting atrocities on Palestinians” finally appears to have come to a head on Thursday.

Lib Dem Chief Whip Alistair Carmichael wrote to Mr Ward to inform him he was removing the party whip.

But that could well trigger a defection – Mr Ward’s Bradford constituency neighbours that of Respect MP George Galloway. Senior Lib Dems long-feared that taking disciplinary action could push Mr Ward to jump ship. He denies that will be … Continue Reading
